hello Romanian fellows
i just wanted to ask something, an absurd thing maybe but it's not something new..
why people who live in usa (immigrant or american citizen) define themselves as american? for example take a Romanian as an example, he/she says he/she is american? but his/her roots come from Romania, why he/she denies his/her identity?

If I moved to Turkey, learned the language, became a citizen, established myself and raised a family there, I would call myself: "Turkish", because Turkey is my home.

Unlike other countries (See Turkey, for instance), US does not force anybody to dismiss the old country. On the contrary, all who become US citizens are encouraged to bring the best of their native countries, and integrate within the US environment.
It is a concept that most of the European countries have a hard time understanding, obviously. Not to mention some more retarded countries such as Turkey, no matter how much Ataturk tried to bridge the gap between East and West. The handicaps are still present, therefore your question.
