Well, I know this post is from Feb, but maybe I can respond anyway. I'm an American living in Vienna. They hate Americans in Europe. At least that's what I hear almost every day to my face or eavesdropping. They are very bold about it and there's no defense. They say we have no culture, our children can't multiply 2 x2, and hold us accountable for every past action like Hiroshima, defending Israel, etc, etc. They haven't been to America but still speak so. I am not proud of some of the things happening in America but I sure don't dis someone else's country that I have not seen for myself.

Being American
Means I may also be proud.
However, as a mind opener for those who failed to protect us on 9/11, - US GOV ??? should NEVER forget, that the immigrants that make up USA, are coming from repressive regimes, and therefore they ARE in THE KNOW as far as Government abuses are concerned.
They (the immigrants) should be the FIRST source of info gathering. THE NSA, CIA, FBI FAILED to question ANYBODY and be on top of things. Let's not forget. (f...ck, they questioned me over some shitty phone calls I made back to my old country, back in the early 80's, a few years after I got here).
Not only that, but those very immigrants can and will volunteer information, if asked. They did not leave their abusive old regimes for nothing. However, the US Intelligence failed to obtain from me valuable info regarding the communist country I had left. I could have given them PLENTY. They failed to ask (probably thinking that they are being HUMANE, or SUPER AGENTS, while keeping an eye on me, IDIOTS).
WHY cannot the US Intelligence community comprehend this simple fact??
Why are they (US Intelligence community) being "distant" and un- cooperative with the new commers/immigrants that entered US LEGALLY???
Why don't they listen to the newly US adopted citizens??
Why don't they draw INFO from them??
WAS the US Intelligence community that SMART, or that FED UP, or that IDIOTICALLY COMPLACENT, to allow 9/11 to happen?
I guess so.
As far as I am concerned, they are a bunch of cops looking for the next DONUT/Starbucks SHOPS, while they collect their HEFTY PAYCHECKS from us, private enterprise workers and tax payers.
Shame on them, how they now try to cover their IMPOTENCE, and desguise PHONE LISTENING as fighting terrorism, while trampling the BILL of RIGHTS and the Constitution.
They can take this BOARD discussion and SHOVE it, after 9/11.

I do not believe the US Government ever thought we would get attacked on such a magnitude as we did on 9/11 - be it that they thought we were not disliked that much or that we thought so much of ourselves that we didnt think anyone would dare an attempt.
Yes, immigrants should be the first in the order things, people who are in this country illegally should be removed, if they want to live here there is a legal process and they need to follow that.
I tire of people saying USA was built with immigrants coming over, and although, that is true, we were all immigrants at one point, there is only so much space, and we need to stop sometime. Too many homeless people out there, yet illegals come in and get all kinds of government benefits while plotting how to destroy us.

The 11/9 attack was something that the whole world saw it coming except the Americans. And do you know why?
Because the U.S is an arrogant country. This is of course acceptable to some point, since the Americans have achieved prosperity in little time. Before the 11/9 you all thought you are the No 1 super-power in the world. That no-one would dare to touch even one civilliant.
But the Arabs are tough and they do not forget. The U.S leaders have made their life a living hell for no reason (well not for any reason, for the dollars that they could all make from the constant wars). They didn't care they ruined some innocent people's lives and -admit it- they didn't give a s**t about the American soldiers either, who died in vein. Not that they ever did... we all know that many U.S soldiers were dumped at Vietnam back then.
The Arabs have strong believes-imagine that their language has not evolved for many-many years only by respect to the Koran. It is in their faith to kill those who kill them or those who don't believe in their God. They wouldn't just sit there and do nothing, watching the U.S KILL them for nothing... or for their black gold.
Also, the Americans don't have the problem that ALL countries have in ths world: NEIGHBOURS. Right and left there's the oceans, in the North there's Canada (a huge percentage of the canadian school-kids when asked "who is your president" answered "Bush") so no comments about Canada and in the South there's Mexico... no one fears Mexico. So you have learned that you are impossible to reach, no-matter what on earth you do.
Unfortunately for the thousants that were inside the "twins" and their relatives, you had to find out the hard way that no one on this planet can do whatever they want without having to accept the consequences.
And let me humbly give you an advice: read some history. In the thousants of years that we have written history you will find many answers. You don't have any, so you don't realize that History is humans' No1 teacher. History recycles and is repeatable and can teach good lessons. No fast-ascending super-power has stayed like that for long, especially if they are ignorant and arrogant- like the Americans were before 11/9. Understand that we all live and die like we have always had, without sacrificing innocent -American or not- souls in the process.
All those that died on 11/9 fill a black page in the History of Man.
All those that died in Iraq, too.
All those that died in wars in general should't have died.
Your leaders don't seem to understand that, and that's why everyone is so harsh on you.
I watched Michael Moor's Fahrenheit 9/11 and it seems that your lovely president got a lot of money out of Iraq's war, by killing Arabs and American troopers. You still don't understand anything? You still vote for this kind of people? For your own sake OPEN YOUR EYES!!! Stop living in your own pretty world and join reality.

Well you sure don't have to like us - I dont agree with the war and I didnt vote for Bush - but there not a thing I can do about that
As far as arrogance - I guess that's a matter of opinion.
We are generally the first there in another country to help out in disasters - no one ever helps us
So, even tho' I disagree with the war - I am still a proud American and love my life here

Oh I don't dislike or hate anyone, you got me wrong there.
I am beyond that point, because hate doesn't help in any case.
And as far as the help that you usually provide, that's a fact. And it has to do with international organizatios and the simple people's feelings about another suffering human being.
You're there when nations are hit by wars or natural disasters supplying food or medicine(like most of the civilized world). When the people just walk around like they're lost carrying a photo of a relative asking "have you seen my son/husband/mother?"
No one expected to actually see American civilliants walking around with photos in their hands and that's always tragic because no nation deserves to be killed or to lose their beloved ones. But bad things return to those who did them in the first place. And you can bet that they won't return to Bush, but they'll hit the simple people.
And that's even more annoying. When are we finally going to learn that it's not worth killing thousants of people just to give money to a few?
Had the wars you caused been about your national rights, I would understand. But no one threatened your nation or your borders or anything like that. The war in Iraq was for no reason, just for the money and that's disgusting. Further more, the money didn't go to you, but to those "few" people.
Besides, if you are happy and proud living in the U.S, good for you. Nobody argued that. But your leaders just have to stop playing the police, deciding about the fate of the entire planet, because we too are happy and PROUD living in OUR countries and the U.S is trying to "americanize" and rule other nations; and sadly it's doing quite well so far.

Ever since there are greeks in our land, everyone has been fighting us harshly. The Turks had taken over our country for 400 years.
And when we finally faught them away (1821), our governments have done everything in their powers to ruin our country, by loaning money from all the super powers etc. The result is that now we owe to everyone so we always have to do what they want us to do. Not to mention that they interfere with our internal issues, too. And no one cares what we would like to do or who constantly provokes us or what our thesis would be about many matters.
We have 2500 years of civilization and we always end up eating s**t (pardon my saying), when we should be respected as we deserve (no more and no less). But everyone seems to ask "a pound of flesh no more no less", since our lovely politics have agreed to that for two centuries now.
The truth is frustrating...

I love the America that our forefathers fought for. The problem is that I have never seen that America. Allot of the things Europeans say about this country are true and it is further true that corruption is wide spread among the average people. Nonetheless, people are still people and good and evil exist in all countries. Both parties need to quit stereotyping. I can say all kinds of bad and true things about just about any country in Europe, but it is not descriptive of all people. I know people individually and knowing people that way works and leaves less room for error.

Unfortunately corruption is everywhere.
It's in the police, medical system, laws and court rooms, super-markets, everywhere.
I think we are living in an era where everything is difficult for the average citizen of any country. May be we will live to see some radical changes, cause I think that the people throughout the world are really tired of all these.
I would love to be living for example in the mythical Atlantis, where the system was close to perfect and the people in that country were somewhat "spiritual", the truths and forces of the Earth and Universe were known to all citizents and justice was real. Did this country ever exist? Will Humans ever be capable of this? I'd love to have some answers...
