Slow HOSPITAL DEATH

This is my reply:


"Seems like hospital caused pneumonia to me.


(An acute or chronic disease marked by inflammation of the lungs.)





It is that condition, which the medical practitioners avoid to acknowledge as being caused (most of the times) by having a patient lying on his/her BACK for prolonged periods of time.





The lungs tend to collapse and flatten under the body's weight and gravitational forces.





Thus, a patient is left to die, suffocating slowly but surely, unless he/she is turned every hour on the hour on both sides, so that the LUNGS can naturally regain their breathing potential.





Obviously, nurses Do NOT do their hefty paid jobs, therefore patients, unable to maneuver themselves, and weakened by the crappy hospital food, are left to die."





This topic should spark others, unless we are all memorex and waiting to become victims of the same hospitals that killed our mothers and fathers.

Romanian hospitals are said to be some of the worst. When I lived in Suceava, the hospital loomed dangerously close over the city and the residents would rather die than go there. I was told there were cats roaming the halls and wanted to go for a tour. But you had to pay to be sneaked in unless you were desperately ill. Friends and family have to bring food to you as a patient, and you have to bribe the doctors and nurses to get any attention. We have a Romanian worker here in Vienna that has an old wound scar on his arm that looks like it was sewn up with baling wire. But he survived. Curious, huh?

Thank you for the insight re. Romanian hospitals and Welcome to this board.





However, as unfortunate as it may be, what I described before is happening here in the US, and it has nothing to do with the overall hospital conditions. We are talking about complete indifference towards the patients on the part of the hospital staff.





What is even more appalling is the fact that the healthcare here in the US is supposed to be the best in the world, and yet, regardless of how much the nurses and doctors are paid (huge by comparison to other countries), the truth is that the nurses and their assistants fail miserably to provide the decent and humane care the patients need.

Typical human reaction. Our species is unfortunately often characterized by irresponsibility, especially when the responsibility is difficully detected. In plain words, what the nurses don't do is not easy to prove. Most of the patiens and their relatives are likely unaware of this death possibility and -even if they did- I suppose it would be difficult to prove the nurse's fault. So why would they bother turning the patient arround every now and then?





It is a fact that doctors and emploees in the health "industry" in general have a tendancy in facing sick people as "possibility", "potential recovery" and "percentage". What I mean is that they usually won't try hard enough to recover a person who is near to death (car accidents bla bla bla) or even try to make the rest of their time worth living (ok not every doctor, but this happens). For example, they would most likely try to persuade the bike-accident-patient-who-is-in-a-comatose-condition's relatives to shut down the breathing machine so that he/she dies and donate his/her internal organs to other patiens, who are most likely POSSIBLE of surviving, even if the specific patient has a 5% PERCENTAGE of recovering.





In the case that Vlad is refering to, I understand that we are talking about people that are close to death or bound to a hospital bed for a long time, if not for the rest of their lives. They don't have a good percentage...





I strongly feel that you should fight for your rights as civiliants who will need medical care in the future and push the doctors/nurses to do what they are paid by the tax-payers to do. Of course, ignorance is the worst enemy, so this danger should be known. (really Vlad, are Americans aware of this hazzard? I didn't know)


Doctors and nurses are those who should be helping people, not sending them to meet Saint Peter earlier than they would normally do. This is UNACCEPTABLE and BRUTAL.
